Help with an unemployment benefit claim in the Netherlands

Local advice desks exist only in some cities

The claim itself goes to UWV online, but a few cities have a desk or neighbourhood team where you can talk it through face to face. Some hold weekly walk-in sessions, others ask you to request a conversation first. Bring papers such as your last payslip and employment contract.

Request a conversation online and check the reply for the place, as meetings can be held at other locations in town.

UWV (Dutch employee insurance agency) permits a WW (Dutch unemployment benefit) application from one week before the first unemployment day until one week afterwards. Prepare DigiD (the Dutch digital ID for government websites), your latest payslip and employment contract, bank-account number and unemployment date. Keep relevant termination documents available. Submit on time through UWV even if the local advice appointment is later; a late application can affect payment. UWV explains the current procedure online.
