Offices for renewing a driving licence in the Netherlands

Online renewal depends on the municipality you are registered in

Renewals and replacements are handled by your own municipality. Online renewal, booking a visit to apply, the photo you need and the way you collect the new licence can all differ from one municipality to the next.

Renew online or book a counter visit, and allow about a week if you apply at the counter.

For a counter visit, bring the previous licence even if expired, a compliant photo no older than six months, and payment. If the licence has expired, bring valid passport or ID too. The municipality asks non-EU/EEA/Swiss nationals for a valid residence permit. At collection bring your collection receipt and old licence, or valid ID if you have no licence. If you renew online through RDW (Dutch vehicle and driving licence authority), keep the application code sent by email or SMS after an approved photographer or photo booth submits your digital photo and signature. The code is valid for six months and is required to apply. DigiD (the Dutch digital ID for government websites) login using SMS verification alone is not sufficient.
