Passports in the Netherlands
For Dutch citizens renewing a passport and for residents without a passport from their own country: who can apply and what to prepare.
Proof of your partnership, issued by the municipality that recorded it
A registered partnership, in Dutch a geregistreerd partnerschap, is recorded by a municipality, and that same municipality issues the certificate wherever you live now. You can usually order it online with DigiD, the government login, at a counter or in writing, and someone else can ask for it with your permission. A cohabitation agreement is a different, private contract, usually drawn up with a notary.
How it works
Get official proof of a registered partnership or legal cohabitation, or that none is registered.
Some procedures, such as a family residence application, ask for proof that you are in a registered partnership or legal cohabitation, or that you are not registered with anyone. Depending on the country, the certificate comes from the town hall, the civil registry or a regional register of couples. You usually need your ID, and sometimes your partner’s consent if they are not applying with you. Check which version the recipient needs and whether it must be translated or legalised. Getting a certificate is not the same as registering a new partnership.

Ask the municipality that recorded your partnership
Options differ by town: online with DigiD, at the counter, or with a written request, and the certificate often arrives by post. Ask the municipality that recorded the partnership, as no other office can issue it.
