Social welfare centres in Belgium, by city

Ask at the centre of the municipality where you live

Larger cities have several service points, spread over different neighbourhoods. Some want an online request first, others hold drop-in sessions on set days, and a few hand out numbered tickets that can run out early. Find your city to see how its centre works before you head there.

Have your income and household assessed by a social worker, who can also visit you at home if you cannot travel.

Bring ID, evidence of your current income and relevant household income, and savings information; ask the social worker what further documents your situation needs. For a first official help request you may use OCMW (public social welfare centre) Online, with eID/itsme or its form without login. Existing claims and follow-up go to the local OCMW. Cooperate with the social investigation and report relevant changes. The city notes that overlapping income or certain recovery circumstances can affect repayment; clarify this before treating any advance as a grant.
