Service points for health insurance questions in the Netherlands

Insurer service points and city desks in a few cities

Help comes from two kinds of places: an insurer’s own service point, and a municipal desk that explains the city’s low-income health insurance scheme. Several ask you to phone first or visit only by appointment, and you may need your citizen service number (BSN) ready. Which of the two a city has, and how to reach it, differs from place to place.

  • The Hague

Stadhuis Spui — Gemeente Den Haag

Spui 70, 2511 BT The Hague

Phone the city’s customer centre to book, and ask specifically for the counter at Spui.

Have your BSN (citizen service number), existing insurance or VGZ customer details and questions ready. Ask which identity, income, asset and household documents are needed for the programme assessment. Tell the adviser about premium arrears, CAK debt registration or a payment arrangement for deductible or co-payment arrears. Online applications follow the official VGZ/municipal application links and require DigiD (the Dutch digital ID for government websites); never share your login with an adviser. For ordinary annual switching, the period is 12 November–31 December for cover from 1 January. Ask which start date applies if your circumstances differ. Keep the application acknowledgement; the decision letter follows within eight weeks. Confirm the current premium and any contribution for your own situation.
