Service points for health insurance questions in the Netherlands

Insurer service points and city desks in a few cities

Help comes from two kinds of places: an insurer’s own service point, and a municipal desk that explains the city’s low-income health insurance scheme. Several ask you to phone first or visit only by appointment, and you may need your citizen service number (BSN) ready. Which of the two a city has, and how to reach it, differs from place to place.

Phone with questions about the low-income health insurance scheme, then enrol online through your own municipality.

Have income, asset and existing-insurance details available when asking what evidence is needed. Check the premiums and cover for your municipality and chosen package. If insured elsewhere, the switching window runs from mid-November to 31 December; ask about any mid-year option. Enrolling without meeting the conditions can lead to a supplementary charge. If uncertain about your Dutch basic-insurance obligation, request an SVB assessment separately.
