Offices that take your departure report in Belgium

Go to the municipality where you are registered now

The report is made where you currently live, so the right office depends on your Belgian address. Towns handle it differently: a walk-in counter, an emailed form, an online request or a phone call first. Foreign residents hand in their residence card as part of it.

Go in person to the foreign-residents counter before you leave for good, and book ahead for Tuesday or Thursday afternoons.

Attend personally with your Belgian residence document, national identity card or passport, and a recent compliant photo less than six months old. Confirm what departure does to your particular residence document and any planned return before surrendering documents. If you cannot attend, ask the foreign-residents team how your circumstances can be handled.

Come on a weekday, with or without an appointment, or write with proof of your foreign address if you have already left.

Before departure, bring your identity card and have its PIN available for the official counter process. The household reference person can declare for the whole departing household; other representatives need signed authority and both-sided ID copies, with card-update arrangements to confirm. From abroad, provide proof from the foreign municipality or local police, national-register number, new address, accompanying family members’ names and ID copies. The city requires a parent travelling alone with children to provide the remaining parent’s permission.
