Offices that take your departure report in Belgium

Go to the municipality where you are registered now

The report is made where you currently live, so the right office depends on your Belgian address. Towns handle it differently: a walk-in counter, an emailed form, an online request or a phone call first. Foreign residents hand in their residence card as part of it.

  • Ghent

    Dienst Burgerzaken – Migratie

    Woodrow Wilsonplein 1, 9000 Ghent

Non-Belgian residents fill in the online form up to a week before leaving, and keep the residence card until banking is done.

Have your current residence card, national-register number, details of family members leaving with you, email, phone, overseas address and departure date ready. Keep a copy of the card: Model 8 and appendix 37 alone do not prove prior lawful residence at border checks. If a declared temporary absence becomes permanent, submit the form again with permanent departure selected.

    Dienst Burgerzaken – Verhuizen

    Woodrow Wilsonplein 1, 9000 Ghent

Sign the online form with your identity card, or email a signed copy, before you leave.

Prepare identity cards for everyone included, names, old address, departure date and foreign address; if unknown, at least the destination country and city. Keep the acknowledgement and reference number. Moving abroad does not automatically dissolve legal cohabitation. If you have already left, contact the department to resolve your registration rather than assuming a retrospective declaration is possible.
