Phone ahead to learn which desk handles your file

Benefit questions go to the benefits team of the county employment office. Offices organise claims differently: the desk or caseworker who looks after yours depends on the office, and you should be ready to show proof of past work and insurance, including time worked abroad.

Register as unemployed in person or with an electronically signed application, and have your benefit entitlement assessed.

Prepare identity and residence details, employment certificates and documents explaining the end of employment. For part-time work or civil contracts, provide employer evidence of earnings and social-insurance/Labour Fund contributions; the local office’s website supplies those forms. Former business owners may need ZUS (Poland’s social insurance institution) contribution periods and monthly assessment bases. Bring relevant evidence of care, sickness, disability or family circumstances and the account details needed for payment. Ordinary benefit duration is 180 days, with 365 days for specified eligible groups. Amounts are assessed at 100% or 120% of the current basic rate according to qualifying work history; payment is monthly in arrears. Disclose work abroad or other insurance so the office can establish the applicable procedure.

Bring the certificate from the foreign agency paying your benefit, and keep receiving it while you look for work in Poland.

Keep PD U2 and its specified dates, foreign benefit decision and identity details ready. Register as a jobseeker with the local PUP (county labour office) within seven days from the date you ceased to be available to the former country’s employment service, following the dates and deadline on PD U2; do not count simply from arrival or your travel date. Then present U2 to the competent WUP. Do not wait for a WUP visit before registering with PUP. Before departure, the usual requirement is four weeks registered with the foreign employment service; confirm individual conditions with the paying institution.
