Offices for residence permit applications and renewals in Belgium

Your municipality’s foreigners’ desk is where the paperwork begins

Residence cards and permit renewals are dealt with at the foreigners’ desk of the municipality where you live. Offices differ in how they take first contact and which groups they serve, such as students, permit holders and EU citizens. Some assign every appointment themselves after you phone, and some close parts of the week.

    Stadhuis Sint-Niklaas – Burgerzaken

    Grote Markt 1, 9100 Sint-Niklaas

Book the document appointment first, and wait for the city’s invitation before ordering a new card.

Bring the documents requested in your letter or procedure and an identity document such as your residence card or foreign passport. For changed personal details, bring supporting evidence such as the new passport or birth certificate. Foreign documents may need legalisation or an apostille. The city asks for sworn translation when the document is not in Dutch, French, German or English; confirm requirements for your document and country before paying.

  • Sint-Niklaas

    Stadhuis Sint-Niklaas – Burgerzaken

    Grote Markt 1, 9100 Sint-Niklaas

Arrange your intake appointment by phone or email, as the online information booking does not reserve it.

Use the checklist sent when your appointment is arranged. The city specifically asks for identity card or passport, with visa where applicable, and documents about civil status such as unmarried, married or divorced. Ask which other originals and proofs your situation needs. Some procedures have a federal residence-processing contribution; confirm whether it applies and the current amount for your case.
