Offices for residence permit applications and renewals in Belgium

Your municipality’s foreigners’ desk is where the paperwork begins

Residence cards and permit renewals are dealt with at the foreigners’ desk of the municipality where you live. Offices differ in how they take first contact and which groups they serve, such as students, permit holders and EU citizens. Some assign every appointment themselves after you phone, and some close parts of the week.

For EU, EEA and Swiss citizens

    Brucity — Foreigners’ Office EU

Rue des Halles 4, 1000 Brussels

As an EU, EEA or Swiss citizen with five years of continuous residence, book about a month before your EU card expires.

Bring valid national identification or passport, the expiring EU card or loss/theft certificate and an ICAO-compliant identity photo no older than six months. The permanent-residence application is free; the physical card is charged separately, normally €30 for an adult or €150 urgently. The Immigration Office has a maximum five-month decision period for referred files; this is separate from making the card. For collection, bring national identification, the EU card or loss/theft certificate and the new PIN.

    Brucity — Foreigners’ Office non-EU

Rue des Halles 4, 1000 Brussels

Start your renewal with the regional authority that issued your permit, about two months before your card expires.

Prepare a valid national identity card or passport, current A card and the documents for your branch. You need the unlimited-work decision, employment contract, sufficient-income evidence, comprehensive health-insurance evidence for you and accompanying family, and a recent ICAO-compliant identity photo, at most six months old. Follow the form’s document requirements. Regional and Immigration Office assessment takes its own time; the stated one-to-two-week normal card-production period starts at the card-ordering stage. Normal adult card ordering costs €30; urgent ordering costs €150. An Annex 50 is used during assessment; follow the instructions for your file.
