Offices that exchange foreign driving licences in Belgium

Each municipality has its own first step

The exchange is handled by the municipality where you are registered, and each office has its own first step: an assessment visit, your licence details sent in first, or an online application. It also pays to ask the desk what it expects of a sworn translation before you order one.

Visit on a weekday morning or Wednesday afternoon, and avoid arriving near closing time when queue tickets can run out.

Prepare your ID or residence document and your original foreign licence. For a card licence you generally need a recent colour photo on a white background; ask what else your exchange needs, such as a sworn translation or proof of residence. Exam documents for a first licence are not automatically required for an exchange. Ask when you must hand over the original and whether you may drive while you wait for the decision. Provisional licences can be handled through BelDrive, but that does not mean you can exchange a foreign licence online.
