Offices that exchange foreign driving licences in Belgium

Each municipality has its own first step

The exchange is handled by the municipality where you are registered, and each office has its own first step: an assessment visit, your licence details sent in first, or an online application. It also pays to ask the desk what it expects of a sworn translation before you order one.

Hôtel de Ville de Namur – Espace Citoyens, Population et Étrangers

Rue de Fer, Hôtel de Ville, 5000 Namur

Visit on weekdays with or without a booking, or on Saturday morning with one, and ask for your personal document list.

Prepare identification or residence evidence and the valid original foreign licence; the city checks residence and issue history and whether the model is recognised. Ask about translation and any student-enrolment evidence. After a favourable opinion, bring the documents specified by the team, a compliant photo less than six months old (or an acceptable still-resembling electronic-ID photo) and €28. Collection can be personal or by a representative with signed authority and both-sided ID copy. Ask about surrender of the original, the applicable exchange deadline and permission to drive while waiting.
