Offices that exchange foreign driving licences in Belgium

Each municipality has its own first step

The exchange is handled by the municipality where you are registered, and each office has its own first step: an assessment visit, your licence details sent in first, or an online application. It also pays to ask the desk what it expects of a sworn translation before you order one.

Administration communale de Mons – Population, État civil et Étrangers

    Rue Buisseret 2, 7000 Mons

Start by emailing clear photos of both sides of your licence and ID, and book a visit only after the team replies.

Bring valid ID or residence documentation and the original foreign licence; follow the team’s email checklist. For a non-European licence not in French, Dutch or English, Mons requests a sworn translation. Bring a recent white-background identity photo if your identity document expires within five months. The fee is €25, preferably paid with Bancontact. European processing takes ten working days; for non-European cases allow authenticity review plus a separate licence-order stage. Confirm the current timing and whether you may drive while the original is retained.
